Dude, wtf is up your ass?
Let me ask you this, are you actually for a candidate, or are you just anti the others?
You sound like you're anti-me right now.
I told you why I liked Palin. I've only known her 3 weeks as well. I hear a lot of shit, too much to say I'm for her. I said I like her and I do.
But I like Bill Clinton too.
If this is about opinions as you say, then mine is my concern about guns.
I think that's a big deal right about now. Right or wrong, that's what I've decided serves my interests best.
And yeah, I can prove as much as you can about what happened New Orleans. Maybe it never happened and the whole thing is just fabricated to further the pro-gun agenda.
My point about truth is I don't fucking know, so I have be mindful of what I get onboard with. Not just say "Why bother if I can't know." I hear, read and see a whole lot of shit and make up my mind like everyone else. I can get carried away on seeing what I agree with as true.
But true is true because it is, whether I agree or not. So I have beliefs, but not the knowable truth.
What I said about truth is just a reminder, not a path in life. Ultimately, I don't know shit about any of it because of how it's fed to me. I can look closer and in more places, but it's all still 2nd hand information someone else put out. True or not.
I ended up being against everyone and not for any. I still am really, but now I'm looking at the things I'm for, not against.
I previously listed 17 points warranting any rational human being who cares for the country to revolt at the thought of Palin in office, and I didn't even attack her bat-shit crazy apocalyptic religous beliefs, all of which derived from news sources I have read, not pundits, not talk show hosts not pro-this or anti-that magazines with an agenda to push.
But you ask what was truth? or how to you determine it? especially considering the world we live in with so many people offering their version. The fact is that the credibility of the person does matter, and maybe this was your point, but you presented it in such a way that you made it seem like the pursuit of truth is futile and that any information on the canidate today (negative or otherwise) does not make either better than the other. Which is false. A persons record reflects how they will govern in office. For instance, George Bush is a privleged alcoholic who failed at business and failed as a student but because his family has power he was raised with a false sense of entitlement. Hence, his cowboy diplomacy and belief that the world, regardless of borders or cultures is his firing range (see pakistan). Look at the childhood of Hitler, Stalin of Hussein. The fact is that the past is a precursor to the future and if you want to ignore a politicians record because another person may say something different, then fine, I feel sorry, paticularly for this country because democracy and Thomas Jefferson's hope that an educated class will make it work has failed.
But it's not so much you ignore the past as you asserting that truth is unknowable, well here is where journalism comes into play.
Journalism's first obligation is to the truthDemocracy depends on citizens having reliable, accurate facts put in a meaningful context. Journalism does not pursue truth in an absolute or philosophical sense, but it can--and must--pursue it in a practical sense. This "journalistic truth" is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts. Then journalists try to convey a fair and reliable account of their meaning, valid for now, subject to further investigation. Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information. Even in a world of expanding voices, accuracy is the foundation upon which everything else is built--context, interpretation, comment, criticism, analysis and debate. The truth, over time, emerges from this forum. As citizens encounter an ever greater flow of data, they have more need--not less--for identifiable sources dedicated to verifying that information and putting it in context.
So that is where you look for truth, or at least the closest to it, because journalism (even in its most objective form) is an unwinable stuggle to capture the truth.
And to bring it all back to the beginning. You shouldn't except the words Matt Damon says as truth, or fact or even jump to beliving in them, but you should at the very least compare his words to those in newspapers and on news networks and even those of political sophists on Fox's opinion shows as well as those of the people around you. I was just disturbed because Wagon, I believe, was to quick to write him off completely for the stigma and social perception that follows his profession.
That's it, I'm done, if you disagree. fine.
Oh and I'm not out to get you or insult you, stop being so paranoid.

But I do share your pessimism about politics, and chances are Obama won't be the miracle cure America needs, but it amazes me how people can look at the canidates and campaign and point out even one redeeming quality about the republican propoganda machine. A year ago, I liked McCain, I truely wished it to be be an Obama McCain election but since then McCain has done nothing but tear done Obama with petty shit like Paris Hilton and change position on all the issues that granted him the term "maverick." I also, dont quite understand how Americans can vote against their best interest, and believe me when I say that war in Afganistan/Iraq/Iran/NorthKorea/Pakistan/Georgia and an economy which is expected to fix itself (because that is the ideology republicans subscribe to) benifits Americans.
I understand your gun issue, but I am of the opinion that the removal of guns from this country is not going to happen. To me at least it seems like a non-issue stirred up only to play on fears.

The thing about guns is, if they DO take them...it's too fucking late.
And no, they won't succeed, but they will likely try. Fees are added, fines, restrictions, taxes, it's like they're just saying "Well fuck you."
Plus all the other little insidious bullshit like reclassifying ammo so it counts as an explosive that is prohibited on the shelves of retailers, and outlawing lead because minute traces were found in some buzzards in California.
It's all about control.
Guns aren't my only issue, it's just my foundation. Control is the real issue.
They have too much now and they want more.
Plus, you can't sweat what other people think. You'll start killing them.

You see I think the same think about you, only you're older. So who's better off.
To tell you the truth I don't like politicians, hence my double major. I figured that I can't work for any politician because I pretty much hate them all, so why not write about them.
The only difference I see between you and me is that you look at the world, put your fingers in your ears and complain that people (good-doers, or whatever you called them) are talking too loud, me I try to show those people that they're wrong and make them shut up.

You make do-gooders shut up?
I've never been able to do that, so I just beat them down.
Which makes us not so very different after all.

Same situation, different perceptions
If you’re a minority and you’re selected for a job over more qualified candidates you’re a “token hire.”
If you’re a conservative and you’re selected for a job over more qualified candidates you’re a “game changer.”
Black teen pregnancies? A “crisis” in black America.
White teen pregnancies? A “blessed event.”
Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you’re “unpatriotic.”
Name your kid Track, you’re “colorful.”
If you’re a black single mother of 4 who waits for 22 hours after her water breaks to seek medical attention, you’re an irresponsible parent, endangering the life of your unborn child.
But if you’re a white married mother who waits 22 hours, you’re spunky.
If you’re a 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton, the right-wing press calls you “First dog.”
If you’re a 17-year old pregnant unwed daughter of a Republican, the right-wing press calls you “beautiful” and “courageous.”
If you teach abstinence only in sex education, you get teen parents.
If you teach responsible age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If you kill an endangered species, you’re an excellent hunter.
If you have an abortion you’re not a Christian, you’re a murderer (forget about if it happens while being date raped.)
If you grow up in Hawaii you’re “exotic.”
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you’re the quintessential “American story.”
If you’re a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you’re “reckless.”
A Republican who doesn’t fully vet is a “maverick.”
If you are a Democratic male candidate who is popular with millions of people you are an “arrogant celebrity”.
If you are a popular Republican female candidate you are “energizing the base”.
If you are a younger male candidate who thinks for himself and makes his own decisions you are “presumptuous”.
If you are an older male candidate who makes last minute decisions you refuse to explain, you are a “shoot from the hip” maverick.
If you are a candidate with a Harvard law degree you are “an elitist-out of touch” with the real America.
If you are a legacy (dad and granddad were admirals) graduate of Annapolis, with multiple disciplinary infractions you are a hero.
If you strategize and manage a multi-million dollar nationwide campaign defeating more tenured politicians, you are an “empty suit”.
If you were a part time mayor of a town of 7000 people, you are an “experienced executive”.
If you go to a largely African American south side Chicago church, your beliefs are “extremist”.
If you believe in creationism, don’t believe global warming is affected by human activity, and see the Iraq invasion as “a mission from God”, you are “strongly principled”.
If you left your disfigured wife after cheating on her with a rich heiress, whom you married the next month, you’re a Christian.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years and raised 2 beautiful daughters, you’re “risky”.
If you spend 3 years as a community organizer growing your organization from a staff of 1 to 13 and your budget from $70,000 to $400,000, then become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new African American voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, then spend nearly 8 more years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, becoming chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, then spend nearly 3 years in the United States Senate representing a state of almost 13 million people, sponsoring 129 bills and cosponsoring 545 bills, and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you are “inexperienced”.
If you spend 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, then spend 20 months as the governor of a state with 650,000 people, then you’ve got the most executive experience of anyone on either ticket, have traveled to 3 foreign countries, are the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard of 4,000 members, you are well qualified to lead the nation should you be called upon to do so because your state is the closest state to Russia.

Oh, how odd, Obama told me he was Elvis in a past life. I'm a credible source, I should send this to the NY times. Ron Paul also said he got it on with Oprah Winfrey, I should probably forward that too.
